Jeff Dilley

Jeff Dilley · Engineering and AI leader · Los Angeles

I started writing software as a teenager, for fun. I’ve done it professionally since I was seventeen.

I learned how to be a professional at a small company building applications for local governments. Since then I’ve helped build four startups that were later acquired, led teams, worked as an individual contributor, and done everything in between. Today I’m co-founder and CTO of Seneca Shield. Until October 2026 I was also a staff engineer at StartEngine. I’ve been fascinated by AI since I was a teenager, and I’ve used it every day since 2023.

Lead case

Building with agents

I used coding agents to build Seneca Shield and StoryArbor, and both products include AI features. My own testing harness, plus tests that exercise real behavior, let me iterate with agents quickly.

Here's how I've been using AI lately. Some of it is professional, and some is for fun and curiosity.

  1. Employer work

    StartEngine

    Staff Software Engineer

    Private

Built internal assistants for operations workflows, system monitoring and first-pass triage, code review, and more.

  2. Company I co-founded

    Seneca Shield

    CTO and co-founder

    Private

Built AI agent workflows and tools for healthcare compliance, where data security and accuracy come first.

  3. Private product

    StoryArbor

    Creator and engineer

    In development

Local AI tools and workflows for writers, running on your own Mac.

  4. Private experiment

    JeffLLM

    Personal project

    Experimental

An experiment harness in Rust for training and learning about language models.

Where StoryArbor runs: on one machine

StoryArbor keeps the manuscript, the models, and the answers on the writer's Mac, with no server in the loop. It's a SwiftUI interface over a Rust core that does the reading and the retrieval, with inference on the Mac itself.
