About

Building software since 2002.

I'm Jeff Dilley, a software engineer in Los Angeles. Most of my career has been backend web work, plus the internal admin tools the people running the business depend on.

Chapter 01

In short

I started as a teenager messing around with Visual Basic. I had no idea I could turn it into a career; it was just fun. When I was seventeen, a small company offered me the chance to work for them. That's where I learned how to be a professional, building web-based mapping (GIS) applications for a lot of local governments. My proudest moment from those years was presenting an application I helped write to an auditorium full of government employees.

After that I worked at other companies and learned more as I went. Four of them were startups that were later acquired: LowerMyBills by Experian, ShopNation by Meredith, Dun & Bradstreet Credibility Corp by Dun & Bradstreet, and Blockfolio by FTX. I've led teams, managed engineers, been an individual contributor, and done everything in between.

Now I'm co-founder and CTO of Seneca Shield. Until October 2026 I was also a staff engineer at StartEngine. I've been fascinated by AI since I was a teenager, and I've used it day in and day out since 2023.

The roles that fit

I'm open to engineering and AI leadership roles that stay hands-on. I've managed teams and co-founded a company. I'm glad to mentor and set technical direction, and I still write the code.

Chapter 02

Away from work

I read about space, physics, and math for fun. I like strategy games, mostly StarCraft, Teamfight Tactics, and Carcassonne, and I enjoy golf video games.

I also make things for fun. Pale Signal is a multiplayer space-game prototype in Rust and WebAssembly. The Strange Gate is a Roblox obstacle game written in Luau that I work on with my kids. Both are private hobby projects, not yet published.
